District Cooling System for Aga Khan University, Karachi

The Aga Khan University spread over 84 acres is Pakistan's leading Health care facility and Medical University. Built in 1984 the University did not have adequate provisions for the addition of large numbers of New Buildings on Campus. In the next ten years the additional buildings are likely to exceed 1,000,000 square feet of Constructed Area.

SMC were commissioned to review and plan for future expansion of the Campus. SMC has designed Pakistan's first district cooling system using direct burial factory insulated ABS piping with take off stations for future buildings. At the head end the Central Plant has been hydraulically decoupled and provisions made for modular increase in plant capacity from the existing 2700 TR to 9600 TR by 2009 by the addition of New Chiller Plant, condensor water and Cooling Tower systems. SMC is also providing services for establishing capacity enhancements in respect of other MEP Services.
